The confessional movement was all about exposing yourself and that is exactly what Anne Sexton does in this poem. The Abortion is about Anne's experience with getting an abortion. In the poem she says "just as the earth puckered its mouth, each bud puffing out from its knot, I changed my shoes, and then drove south" which is to signify how as the earth was preparing for another human being she is preparing to go prevent that life from even happening. This poem is a contradiction all throughout, Sexton talks about how she is against abortions but she went to get one anyway. The Abortion is so open about sex and abortions it was only accepted by true poets. The openness of this poem signifies the Confessional movement completely.
