Beginning in the late 1800's in Latin America, Modernismo could be described as rejecting. Modernismo rejected the way the world was so materialistic at this time. Modernismo poems were full of exotic landscapes, swans, and lillies. This was to symbolize the materialism of life. Modernismo was influenced by various other movements such as French symbolism and elements of classical Spanish poetry.
